February 2006: 1Time (1TA) will introduce flights between Johannesburg and Lusaka this month, 3 times a week using a DC-9.

March 2006: 1Time (1TA) will inaugurate nonstop service from Johannesburg to Bloemfontein in Free State on March 16th. The airline will operate 7 flights a week, 2 on Fridays, Sundays and 1 on Mondays, Thursdays, Saturdays, using a DC-9.

(1TA) announced that it has withdrawn its franchise agreement with 1Time Zambia. The Zambian Department of Transport has not renewed the 1Time Zambia Air Service Permit' and therefore planned flights into Lusaka have come to a temporary halt.

February 2010: The Competition Commission of South Africa (CCSA) said it has launched an investigation into collusion on fares and pricing strategies for flights during this summer's soccer World Cup.

The (CCSA) named British Airways (BAB) and its Comair (CML) subsidiary, along with South African Airways (SAA), Airlink, SA Express, 1Time (1TA) and Mango (MGO) as subjects of the inquiry.

The (CCSA) said the office of President, Jacob Zuma issued a November request asking it to look into World Cup soccer airfares. Last month, (SAA) applied for leniency from prosecution in exchange for full cooperation and provided the (CCSA) with "e-mail correspondence between the airlines in which there are indications that the airlines might adjust airfares ahead of the World Cup."

The (CCSA) said, "In particular, the e-mail suggests that since there is no indication as to which flights will represent peak demand flights, airlines have the option to either not provide any inventory for sale until such time, or price all inventory at peak time rates until such time as they have greater certainty." It added that the e-mail "suggests that airfares will have to be raised in order to cover various anticipated additional costs."

Commissioner, Shan Ramburuth said the body "is obliged to investigate all legitimate complaints" concerning anti-competitive conduct and that if it identifies wrongdoing it will refer to the case to the Competition Tribunal for a hearing. The World Cup tournament runs June 11 through July 11 in nine South African cities.

March 2012: 1Time Airline (1TA) saw two major developments to its network take place on 5 March. (1TA), which operates MD-83 airplanes, launched its third international route, connecting Johannesburg (JNB) with Mombasa (MBA) in Kenya with two weekly flights. The route follows (1TA)'s international operations to Zanzibar and Livingstone. This is the first time the two airports are connected non-stop since Kenya Airways (KEN) operated the route 2004 - 2008. (1TA) also added another South African airport to its network; Lanseria (HLA), located between Johannesburg and Pretoria. The new routes to Cape Town (CPT) and Durban (DUR) each operate twice-daily. The Cape Town route competes with fellow low cost carriers (LCC)s Kulula.com (KUL) and Mango (MGO), which operate 46 and 20 weekly frequencies, respectively, while the Durban route faces Kulula.com (KUL)’s 36 flights a week.

May 2012: 1Time Airline (1TA) is considering setting up joint ventures with local partners in other African countries. It currently mainly operates domestic low-cost carrier (LCC) services with two MD-82s, two MD-83s and three MD-87s but also serves Livingstone Maramba (LVI), Mombasa Moi International (MBA) and Zanzibar (ZNZ) airports.

August 2012: 1time airline (1TA) and Airlink (South Africa) ((IATA) Code: 4Z, based at Johannesburg Oliver Reginald Tambo International airport (JNB)) are both considering setting up new airlines in Zimbabwe to fill the void left by Air Zimbabwe (ZMB) which now just irregularily operates some domestic services. Both hope to secure a license in cooperation with local Zimbabwean partners that according to legal regulations in the country would have to hold a 51% stake in the carriers. It remains to be seen if any licenses are in fact issued to local start-ups or South African carriers given decisions on applications by Phoenix Air (based at Harare International (HRE)) and Sol Air (Zimbabwe) ((IATA) Code: ZS, based at Harare International airport (HRE)) also seem to have been postponed for now.

Fresh Air (FFR) (Zimbabwe) (based at Harare International airport (HRE)) has applied for a license to start domestic flights in Zimbabwe. The new low-cost carrier (LCC) is a joint venture (JV) between Zimbabwe based, investment company Nu-Aero and South African (LCC) 1time airline (1TA), (IATA) Code: T6, based at Johannesburg Oliver Reginald Tambo International airport (JNB)) that would provide its fleet and commercial expertise for the operation, if a license can be obtained. 1time (1TA) has announced that as part of the plan to launch Fresh Air (FRR), it would first move its three times weekly service from Johannesburg Oliver Reginald Tambo International (JNB) to Livingstone Maramba airport (LVI) targeted at tourists visiting the Victoria Falls over to Victoria Falls International (VFA) on the Zimbabwean side of the water falls as soon as it is authorized to do so.

September 2012: 1time Holdings, the parent company of South African low-cost carrier (LCC) 1time Airline (1TA), has filed for business rescue under Chapter 6, Section 129 of the Companies Act. Section 129 makes provisions for "financially distressed" companies to be placed under supervision and begin restructuring without intervention by creditors.

(1TA) (CEO), Blacky Komani says (1TA) will "continue normal operations" while the restructuring plan is formalized. "What business rescue does is to give us the protection we need for a few months while we agree a business rescue plan with creditors and other stakeholders so that they will support (1TA) into the future," he explains.

"It gives us the opportunity to stabilize the trading environment, reorganize the business financially, and strategically emerge a healthier company." A business rescue practitioner will be appointed within "the next few days."

1time Holdings, which also includes maintenance arm Jetworx, posted a net loss of -157 million rand/-$18.9 million for the full year to 31 December 2011. At the time, its net debt stood at 295 million rand.

(1TA) runs scheduled domestic and regional services from its main bases in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban. It operates a fleet of 10 MD-80s.

Shares in 1time Holdings were down -42.9% to 8 cents on news of the business rescue filing.

November 2012: South African low-cost carrier (LCC) 1time Airline (1TA) has gone into liquidation, grounding all of its operations and stranding hundreds of passengers.

In a statement on (1TA)’s website, 1time Group (CEO), Blacky Komani said: “The business rescue practitioner has advised that there are no reasonable prospects of survival as a potential financier notified us this afternoon that they are no longer able to invest in our airline. It is therefore with the utmost regret, disappointment and heartfelt disbelief that we have to file for liquidation, which means the end of a dream and an era for all of us.”

According to local press reports, (1TA) filed for business rescue in August, citing financial distress. It is reported to have had about R320 million/$37 million in short-term debt and had been in negotiations with creditors since March.

Komani said that (1TA)’s business rescue practitioners would be in contact with creditors and ticketed passengers, but there is little optimism that passengers will recoup their losses.

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), one of the airline’s creditors, said it regretted (1TA)’s decision to suspend operations. The company said it had “an agreement with 1time (1TA) to put the airline on cash terms. This was a way of ensuring that the overall debt did not escalate further.” (ACSA) said it was one of several creditors that had been working with (1TA)'s business rescue practitioner to try and find a business rescue plan. However, it stressed that (1TA)’s decision to file for liquidation “was solely theirs.”

Unconfirmed reports suggest that new African start-up (LCC) Fastjet (FJT) is trying to secure (1TA)’s air operator’s certificate (AOC).

(1TA)'s Founder and previous (CEO), Rodney James has applied for a new air operating license (AOC) with the South African Department of Transport. James had left (1TA) in April of this year and the new airline is said to be unrelated with 1time (1TA). "SkyWise" (based at Johannesburg Oliver Reginald Tambo International airport (JNB)) has been revealed as the brand of a new low-cost carrier (LCC) planning to launch domestic operations in South Africa from 2013. The new airline is backed by former 1time airline (1TA) executives Rodney James, Glenn Orsmond and Michael Kaminski and the team currently plans to start with two 737-300s on the country's key route between Johannesburg Oliver Reginald Tambo International (JNB) and Cape Town D F Malan International (CPT) airports.

July 2013: Africa Charter Airline (Lanseria) has added their first MD-83 (49707, ZS-TRI) to their fleet. The MD-83, an ex-1time airline (1TA) machine, was recently spotted in the company's colors at Johannesburg O R Tambo. Africa Charter specializes in offering passenger and cargo charter flights and operates a 727-200F, a 737-200 and two 737-200Fs.

Gryphon Airlines SA ( (IATA) Code: 6P, based at Johannesburg O R Tambo) will start scheduled Johannesburg O R Tambo - Libreville - Kinshasa N'Djili - Cotonou flights using an ex-1time airline (1TA) MD-87 (49829, ZS-TRJ), effective November 1. Additionally, a 737-200 (22123, ZS-EVE), has been wet-leased to Air Kasai (Kinshasa N'Djili) for use on domestic Congolese flights which include Kinshasa N'Djili, Mbuji Mayi, Lubumbashi, Kisangani, Goma, Mbandaka, and Gemena.

August 2013: Central Air Transport Services ((IATA) Code: ZO, based at Harare International) has reportedly sold a 49% stake to Johannesburg-based Pakistani firm, (PAK) Aviation Africa, who intend to use the acquisition, in conjunction with a proposed ZAR15 million/USD1.5 million buy out of defunct South African (LCC), 1time airline (1TA), to establish a regional hub out of Harare International. According to "BusinessDay," the Pakistani group said its offer of ZAR15million for the listed holding company had been agreed to "in principle" by 1time's board and 60% of its shareholders. (PAK)'s business plan has now been submitted to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) for consideration. The group had initially wanted to buy what remained of 1time (1TA), but with >ZAR450million in debt and an outdated fleet, the idea was abandoned. (PAK) now plans to revive 1time (1TA) (likely as a brand) using an intra-regional hub out of Harare, in partnership with Oscar Madombwe, a pilot and former acting (CEO) of Air Zimbabwe, who owns 51% of (CATS). Central Air Transport Services (CATS) was at one time based out of Harare Charles Prince Airport and specialized in safari charter operations and flights from Harare to Vilanculos, Mozambique using Cessna 208B Grand Caravans, Piper Navajos and single prop Cessnas. (CATS) is said to have secured rights to various lucrative domestic, regional and international routes, usually the preserve of state-backed national carrier, Air Zimbabwe ((IATA) Code: UM, based at Harare International), which include Harare to Bulawayo, Victoria Falls, Beitbridge, Chiredzi, Masvingo, and Mutare. Regional and long haul rights include Johannesburg O R Tambo, Luanda, Lusaka, Lilongwe, Dar-es-Salaam, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta, Maputo, London Gatwick, and Frankfurt International. A spokeswoman for (PAK) stated initial flights would be to Johannesburg, where the group has secured 28 monthly frequencies but gave no launch dates.

September 2013: 1Time airline (1TA) can be restructured according to (PAK) Africa Aviation, the firm behind plans to acquire 1Time Holdings for use as a holding company for its planned stable of regional airlines. According to the Dubai/Pakistani-backed firm, its move to acquire 1Time Holdings pertained to the view that a Johannesburg Stock Exchange-listed firm would bring with it greater transparency and corporate governance. Once acquired, 1Time Holdings would become the holding company for both (PAK) Aviation Africa and its Zimbabwean subsidiary, 1time Zimbabwe (based at Harare International) - a 49/51 partnership with Central Air Transport Services ((IATA) Code: ZO, based at Harare International). (PAK) Africa Aviation (Pty) Ltd is currently in the process of applying for a South African Air Operator's Certificate (AOC) with its Zimbabwean subsidiary already possessing one by virtue of its majority shareholder, Oscar Madombwe. According to "The African Aviation Tribune," once all the technicalities have been finalized, 1Time Holdings will then be equipped with a new fleet of airplanes (initially ATR42s and ATR72s) for onward placement at both (PAK) Africa Aviation and 1Time Zimbabwe. An official launch date will be announced once the (JSE) transaction is finalized though Zimbabwean flights have been provisionally scheduled for October 2013. The initial plan is to start domestic flights in both South Africa and Zimbabwe with regional short-haul routes ("within a 5 hour radius") to follow thereafter. Flights to India and Pakistan will be considered after two years of operations.

October 2013: 1time airline (1TA) is now well into its liquidation proceedings after Aviwe Ndyamara, the airline's Chief Liquidator, confirmed that the final order to liquidate 1time Airline (1TA) was granted on October 3. According to TourismUpdate, the defunct low cost carrier (LCC)'s licenses have now been terminated and liquidators are now waiting for the Master of the High Court to schedule a meeting with creditors regarding any outstanding claims. Meanwhile, (PAK) Africa Aviation is still awaiting a ruling by the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) regarding its planned purchase of the "1Time" name and brand. (PAK) Africa Director, Tabassum Abdul Qadir, said that a final decision is expected month end with the airline's joint venture (JV) with Central Air Transport Services ((IATA) Code: ZO, based at Harare International) in Zimbabwe, dubbed "1time Zimbabwe" (based at Harare International), on course to launch, in December instead of October as previously anticipated. He noted that leases and all contractual obligations linked to launching the airline are also in the final phases. The South African Department of Transportation, has however warned that (PAK) had yet to provide the Air Services Licensing Council with proof of a consumer guarantee, needed to secure a domestic operator's license.

December 2013: 1time airline ((IATA) Code: T6, based at Johannesburg O R Tambo Airport) (1TA) has entered a binding agreement with Global Aviation Operations ((IATA) Code (QG), based at Johannesburg O R Tambo Airport) parent, Global Aviation Holdings, and (PAK) Africa Trade Zone to acquire 100% of the issued share capital of Global Airways (GLG) for a consideration of ZAR21.6 million/USD2.14 million. (1TA) sees the acquisition as "a viable means of reviving the company due to Global Airways (GLG) having a successful track record in the aviation industry and a valid Airline Operators Certificate (AOC) for both scheduled and non-scheduled flights." The restructuring of the Company will enable 1time to operate as a low-cost carrier (LCC) once again. (GLG)'s fleet consists of of 2 DC-10s, 5 DC-9-30s and 1 MD-82. (PAK) Africa's aviation division, (PAK) Aviation, is also a 49% shareholder in 1time Zimbabwe (based at Harare International Airport), a joint venture (JV) with Central Air Transport Services ((IATA) Code: ZO, based at Harare International) of Zimbabwe.
