January 2003: Dhai Al-Ani, a 47-year old, Egyptian entrepreneur (who also runs the Glasgow-based tour operator, Discount Holidays), after arriving in the UK 20 years ago, has launched Scotland's first-ever, low-cost airline "Air-Scotland.com." The airline was set up by Dhai Al-Ani in partnership with Electra Airlines (ELC), a Greek charter company, privately owned by a Belgian businessman.
(AST) is aiming for carrying 115,000 passengers in 2003, and reach 250,000, by the 5th year. Routes are being negotiated for service to Italy, France, and Belgium.
March 2003: Operates its 1st flight, Glasgow - Palma de Mallorca (757-2G5, SX-BVN).
May 2003: 757-27B (24135) & 757-28A (25622), Air Holland (HOL), wet-leased to Air Scotland (AST).
July 2003: Newcastle - Barcelona (weekly). Newcastle - Palma de Mallorca (2/week).
August 2003: Air Holland (HOL) is wet-leasing a 757-200 to Air Atlas Express (AAX) in between flights for Air Scotland (AST).
November 2003: 757-2G5 (26278), Thomas Cook (JMA) leased, Greece Airways wet-leased.
March 2004: Glasgow - Girona (2/week). Next month, Prestwick - Palma de Mallorca (2/week). Newcastle - Barcelona (weekly). Edinburgh - Barcelona/Palma de Mallorca (2/week). In May, Newcastle/Edinburgh - Gerona (weekly).
Air-Scotland.com at present carries out ticket sales, marketing, customer service and administration activities, but plans to secure its own air operator's certificate (AOC).
April 2004: 757-236 (24397, SX-BLW), Greece Airways (GRE) wet-leased.
May 2004: Next month, Glasgow - Athens (2/week).
April 2006: 757-236 (24397), lease ended, returned and ferried to Lasham (ATD) to be prepared for Jet2.com (JT2) operations as (G-LSAD).
December 2006: Air-Scotland (AST) operates scheduled and charter jet airplane services from Scotland to Mediterranean destinations using the Air Operator's Certificate of Greece Airways (GRE).
