February 2006: Air Asturias (ATS) is planning to re-launch itself as a low cost airline in the spring with a fleet of 1 767 and 2 A320s. From its base at Asturias, the airline would operate domestic and European services to destinations that would include Barcelona, Madrid, Sevilla, Malaga, La Manga, Amsterdam, Berlin, Frankfurt, London, Milan, Paris and Rome; from Madrid the airline would operate long haul flights to Isla Margarita (Venezuela), Panama City (Panama), Cartagena (Colombia), Campeche, and Cancun (Mexico).
March 2006: AirAsturias (ATS) plans to begin operations to several European and Latin American destinations on June 1st using a leased (in May) fleet of 1 767-300ER and 2 A320's. Plans to add a third A320 in November, followed by +2 A320's and another 767-300ER in 2007.
Javier Taibo, Executive VP, a former Air Madrid (AMD) CEO, says the carrier will launch long-haul flights from Madrid Barajas to Cartagena in Colombia, Cancun in Mexico, Panama, & the Venzuelan island of Margarita.
European services will be flown from its El Principado base in northwest Spain to Barcelona, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Milan, & Paris.
Is 88% owned by Spanish hotel group Celuisma. Construction group Mall holds a 10% stake and 2% is held by aviation consultancy Edefa, which is headed by Taibo. Celuisma chief, Jose Antonio Fernandez Rodriguez will be Chairman of Air Asturias. The airline is being launched with a capital of Euro 6 million/$7.2M. Celuisma & Edefa previously had stakes in Air Madrid (AMD), but the two companies sold their interests in the carrier to Optursa Management and Air Madrid (AMD) co-founder, Herminio Gil in December 2004.
April 2006: Air Asturias (ATS) (Asturias) has announced plans to launch operations in June with two A320-200s out of Asturias and a 767-300ER out of Madrid. It is planning to operate from Asturias to Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin Schoenefeld, Frankfurt, Lisbon, Madrid, Milan Orio al Serio, Palma de Mallorca, Paris Orly and Rome Fiumicino. Its planned longhaul program out of Madrid includes Campeche, Cancun, Cartagena, Panama City and Porlamar.
August 2006: Air Asturias (ATS) of Spain expects to launch service in October, according to Spanish press reports. The start-up will be based at Oviedo Airport and initially will fly four-times-weekly to Rome, Milan, Lisbon and either Frankfurt or Berlin aboard A320s. It also intends to serve Paris, London, Brussels and destinations in Mexico, Panama and Venezuela, where its main shareholder, the Celuisma hotel group, has interests. Long-haul flights will originate from Madrid Barajas.

November 2006: Air Asturias (ATS) is a low-cost carrier (LCC) based in Oviedo in the Asturias region of northern Spain. Serves European destinations and international destinations in Central and South America.
Parent organization/shareholders: Celuisma (Spanish hotel group) (88%); Mall (Construction group) (10%), & Edefa (which is headed by Taibo, an aviation consultancy) (2%).
Main Base: Madrid Barajas airport (long haul); & Oviedo Airport (short haul).
Air Asturias (ATS) will inaugurate nonstop service from Oviedo to Brussels on January 15th operating 3 flights a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays, using an A320.

January 2007: AirAsturias (ATS) will cease operations January 26, just two months after it launched its first flight. The Oviedo-based carrier started with a leased A320 and currently flies to Madrid, Lisbon, Rome Fiumicino and Paris Charles de Gaulle. It had intended to expand to Brussels and Amsterdam. Reportedly, it is seeking to relaunch with long-haul A340 service to South America via Madrid.
