September 2002: Azzurra Air (AZR) owners, including Air Malta (49%), are offering the airline for sale, and due diligence is being conducted, by Australian venture capitalist, Integrated Airlines Solutions (IAS). The Australian company (Angus Clarke, Director) is interested in transforming (AZR) into a low-fare carrier. (IAS) had made an earlier unsuccessful attempt to bid for Olympic Airways (OLY). (IAS) would dispose of all the regional airplanes, of (AZR) and only operate 737's.

October 2002: Parent, Air Malta (MLT), has traded in its 4 RJ70's, and 3 RJ85's (operated by Azzurra Air) to Airbus, although the airplanes remain in service, for the time being.

January 2003: In summer, Air Malta (MLT) will base an A320 in Manchester for wet-leased charter work by Azzurra Air (AZR).

(AZR) is an Italian regional carrier, operating to European destinations from its operational base at Milan Malpensa (MXP) Airport. Services are flown in conjunction with Alitalia (ALI) under the Alitalia Express banner. Since 5/99, (AZR) has offered charter flights with 737-700's.

September 2003: Italian investment group, Seven, acquired Azzurra Air (AZR) from Air Malta (MLT). The 7 Group, described as a British group has already purchased 50.86% of (AZR) from an Italian company, Air International services, which now gives it a 99.86% shareholding.

November 2003: The 7 Group acquires Air Littoral, including 17 recently delivered CRJ's 50 PAX, & 608 full-time employees throughout the Air Littoral Group, which comprises the airline, engineering subsidiary Air Littoral Industrie and (ESMA) Flight Training. The court ruled that the company's HQ must remain in Montpellier for at least 5 years. The 7 Group committed to maintain Air Littoral's 2 primary operational bases in Montpellier and Nice. It will inject # EUR 11M/$12.7M into the business intially and a further # EUR 4M over the next 6 months. The new management will combine with (AZR). Air Littoral currently offers some 120 connections amaongt the largest cities of southern Europe, carrying in its most recent operating year, some 6,000 passengers/day.

December 2003: Dominic Attard, CEO, was dismissed.

GECAS (GEF) repossessed its 2 737-76N's (29885; 32737). Peregrine repossessed its 7 Avro RJ's, leaving (AZR) with 2 737-73S's and 2 A320's (UK-based).

January 2004: Operated its last flight and ceased operations.

February 2004: Continues to operate 1 leased 737-700 on its Milan (Bergamo)-Rome scheduled service, as well as some charters.

March 2004: Had its last 737-700 repossessed by Germania (GER).

July 2004: 2003 = 242M RPK (passenger traffic); 51.1% LF (load factor); 220K passengers (PAX).

August 2004: Declared bankrupt and will be liquidated.

January 2005: RJ70 sold to HSBC/Peregrine Aviation Leasing and leased to Malmo Aviation.

Airline's assets taken over by Azzurra Air's founder who moved the airline to Romania at Bucharest's downtown secondary airport, Baneasa (BBU) and renamed it Blue Air (BLD). See (BLD).
