April 2014: British Aerospace Corporate Flight Operations (Corporate Air Travel) Ltd, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of (BAE) Systems. In support of the company's business and as an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) holder, it provides scheduled internal airline services carrying personnel between various sites in the UK and Europe, as well as worldwide charter management. (BAE) Systems Regional Aircraft has obtained (EASA) approval to upgrade all previous TCAS 7.0 installations on Boeing 737s and 757s to the new TCAS 7.1 standard and has won business from three airlines.

Air Astana (AKZ) is a 51/49 joint-venture (JV) between Kazakhstan's sovereign wealth-fund, Samruk-Kazyna, and B Ae Systems ((IATA) Code: B1, based at Warton, England, UK). Air Astana (AKZ)'s (EU)-based destinations are London Heathrow, Frankfurt International and Amsterdam, though Paris (CDG) and Prague are reportedly under consideration.

Air Astana ((IATA) Code: KC, based at Astana) (AKZ) has been given the go-ahead to increase its European coverage after the European Union (EU)'s Air Safety Committee (ASC) lifted sanctions placed on (AKZ) in 2009.

In its latest bulletin detailing changes to the bloc's Banned Operators List, the (ASC) said the Kazakh carrier had shown its safety oversights and procedures to be in line with international standards but said that all other Kazakh airlines would remain banned until the Kazakh authorities implement a sustainable system to effectively oversee the safety of these carriers.

In April 2009, an audit by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), found the Kazakhstan Civil Aviation Committee (CAC) to be non-compliant in key areas of regulatory oversight. Though this resulted in the (ASC) imposing a blanket ban on all Kazakh-registered airlines from flying to, from or within the (EU), Air Astana (AKZ) was exempted on account of its unique structure and regulatory framework including its European (EASA) Part 145 airplanes engineering license, the registration of its airplanes with the Department of Civil Aviation of Aruba (a Dutch overseas territory) and its (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) registration.

September 2015: (BAE) Systems has announced what it says is an industry first with a system that will allow airline passengers to downstream current movies direct to their personal devices while in the air.

The new capability will be available via (BAE)’s wireless In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) product, IntelliCabin, and was announced at the APEX Expo in Portland, Oregon, this month. It is the result of (BAE) Systems striking a deal with an unnamed major Hollywood studio for the streaming of early window content (movies recently out of theaters, but not yet available for home viewing) to passenger and airline-owned devices.

“We are now able to provide airlines with the extraordinary capability to stream early window content to passengers’ devices. This is a game changer for our industry and will enable airlines to provide exceptional travel experiences to all its passengers,” (BAE) Systems Director Cabin Systems, Jared Shoemaker said.

Content will be streamed from a server locally installed on the aircraft, (BAE) said. No details were given on pricing structures or potential airline customers. However, India-based airline Vistara (VST) became the launch customer for IntelliCabin earlier this year.

ARLINGTON, Virginia, USA, October 12, 2015: - Electronic warfare (EW) experts at (BAE) Systems are developing a full-spectrum staring electronic support receiver (FSSR) with instantaneous direction finding (IDF) for potential use in next-generation Navy (EW) applications.

Officials of the Office of Naval Research (ONR) in Arlington, Virginia, USA announced an $11 million contract to the (BAE) Systems Electronic Systems segment in Nashua, New Hampshire, USA as part of the (ONR) Electronic Warfare Technology program, which seeks to develop and demonstrate (RF) and microwave technologies for next-generation (EW) technologies.

(BAE) Systems engineers will design and demonstrate a full-spectrum staring electronic support receiver with instantaneous direction finding that capitalizes on emerging and innovative electronic and photonic component technologies into an end-to-end electronic warfare demonstration system.

(BAE) Systems experts will subject their (FSSR) to a realistic, multi-threat electromagnetic environment, including interfering emitters, to demonstrate its operational potential under terminal engagement scenarios of interest to the Navy.

(ONR)'s Electronic Warfare Technology program seeks to develop innovations in electronics and software that could lead to the next generation of (EW) applications.

The goal is to enable Navy and Marine Corps forces to control the electromagnetic spectrum by exploiting, deceiving, or denying enemy use of the spectrum, while ensuring its use by friendly forces.

In addition to the (BAE) Systems work to develop a (FSSR) with (IDF), (ONR) researchers also are interested in improved threat warning systems; electronic warfare support (ES); decoys and countermeasures against weapon tracking and guidance systems; electronic attack (EA) against adversary command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C4ISR); and electronic protection (EP) of Navy weapons and (C4ISR) from intentional and unintentional interference.

The program's 4 areas of core interest are radio frequency and millimeter wave electronic warfare subsystem demonstrators; compact and efficient (EW) antennas covering frequencies ranging from 3 to 300 MHz; W-band millimeter wave high-power transmitters; and innovative (EW) concepts.

(RF) and millimeter wave (EW) subsystem demonstrations should use either existing open-systems standards such as (OpenVPX), or industry standards to which the government has full and open rights, Navy researchers say. Reducing size, weight, and power (SWaP) is a driving concern.

Compact and efficient (EW) antennas covering frequencies ranging from 3 to 300 MHz seeks should enable Navy, Marine Corps, and joint-service (EW) systems to detect, deny, or deceive sensors, communications or other systems operating in the (HF) and (VHF) bands. Goals include developing small antennas no longer than one meter with directional capabilities.

W-band millimeter wave high-power transmitters will involve frequencies from 75 to 110 GHz able to achieve one to four kilowatts for small decoy applications, or that can be combined to achieve 100 kilowatts or more for large platforms.

Innovative (EW) concepts seeks to explore concepts that fundamentally could change the way military forces conduct (EW) operations.

On this contract, (BAE) Systems will do the work in Nashua, New Hampshire, USA and should be finished by October 2018.

(BAE) Systems and Reaction Engines Limited (‘Reaction Engines’) announced a strategic investment by (BAE) Systems and a working collaboration to accelerate Reaction Engines’ development of SABRE™ (a new aerospace engine class that combines both jet and rocket technologies with the potential to revolutionize hypersonic flight and the economics of space access).

The transaction is subject to the approval of Reaction Engines’ shareholders.

Under the terms of the agreement, (BAE) Systems will invest £20.6 million in Reaction Engines to acquire 20% of its share capital and also enter into a working partner relationship. The working partnership will draw on (BAE) Systems’ extensive aerospace technology development and project management expertise, and will provide Reaction Engines with access to critical industrial, technical and capital resources to progress towards the demonstration of a ground based engine (a key milestone in the development of the technology).

Under the agreement, (BAE) Systems will enter into a preferred supplier relationship with Reaction Engines in certain agreed areas and will have representation on the board of Reaction Engines.

Reaction Engines is a privately held company based in the United Kingdom developing the technologies needed for an advanced combined cycle air-breathing rocket engine called Synergetic Air-Breathing Rocket Engine (SABRE).

This new class of aerospace engine is designed to enable aircraft to operate from standstill on the runway to speeds of over >5 times the speed of sound in the atmosphere. (SABRE) can then transition to a rocket mode of operation, allowing spaceflight at speeds up to orbital velocity, equivalent to 25 times the speed of sound. Reaction Engines’ technology has undergone extensive independent technical assessments, which have confirmed its viability and potential vehicle applications.

The UK Government is expected to confirm grant funding of £60 million for Reaction Engines to further (SABRE)’s development towards a ground based test engine and to investigate its applications for space access vehicles. Together with (BAE) Systems’ investment, this significant injection of capital will support Reaction Engines’ transition from a successful research phase into development and testing of the engine, including plans to expand its workforce of skilled engineers.

The (BAE) Systems Electronic Systems segment in Nashua, New Hampshire, USA is set for big contracts in the future to provide sophisticated electronic warfare (EW) equipment for the next-generation US Air Force (USF) Northrop Grumman B-21 Long-Range Strike Bomber (LRS-B).

(BAE) Systems (formerly Lockheed Sanders, and Sanders Associates before that) is one of the world's foremost (EW) houses, and is in a position to design the kind of electronic protection that the new B-21 penetrating bomber will need.

It's still too early for any contractor involved in the B-21 program to start counting profits, however. It's far from certain if the B-21 will evolve into a large procurement program. Tight military budgets, and competition with unmanned aircraft, could prevent that from happening.
