Kazakhstan, located between Russia and China, is a vast and boundless nation with unlimited natural resources and potential. ALMATY, IS THE ORIGINAL CAPITAL, BUT THE NEW CAPITAL IS ASTANA (AQMOLA) IN CENTRAL KAZAKHSTAN. ALMATY REMAINS THE ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL CENTER. ALMATY WAS FORMERLY KNOWN AS ALMA ATA.
August 2014: Bek Air ((IATA) Code: Z9, based at Almaty) (BEK) and Scat ((IATA) Code: DV, based at Shimkent) (DVD) will suspend their respective Uralsk operations with effect from September 1 until November 30 owing to upgrade works to the airport's runway 04/22. "Central Asia Aero News" stated passengers intent on travelling to the north-western Kazakh city will be ferried from Atyrau by bus for the duration of the works.
Government re-nationalized the airfield in 2013 in preparation for the KZT6 billion/USD33 million project.
Currently, both carriers offer scheduled services to Aktau, while Bek Air (BEK) also offers connections to Astana, Atyrau, and Kostanay.
January 2017: 1 Fokker F 100 (11505, UP-F1015), ex-(PH-MJP) delivered Saarbrucken to Almaty.
