June 2007: Brazilian airline BRA Transportes Aereos (BRW) signed a "preliminary commercial agreement" for 20 firm EMB-195s plus 20 options. Embraer said it expects the sale to be finalized shortly. It valued the deal at list price at $730 million "based on January 2007 economic conditions (not including optional equipment ordered by BRA (BRW))" and said it could reach $1.5 billion, if all the options are confirmed. The airplanes will seat 118Y in single-class configuration with deliveries scheduled to start in the second half of 2008. Interestingly, (BRW) becomes the first Brazilian airline to order the Brazilian-made jet. It also agreed to lease two new EMB-195s from GE Commercial Aviation Services (GEF) with first delivery in the first half of 2008.
August 2007: Embraer signed a contract with BRA Transportes Aereos (BRW) for 20 118-seat, EMB-195s plus 20 options, finalizing an order announced at the Paris Air Show. The deal includes 20 "rolling options," which if confirmed, constitute purchase rights for an additional 15 airplanes, the manufacturer said. Value of the 20 firm airplanes is $730 million at list prices and the deal could reach $2.7 billion, if all options and rights are exercised. (BRW) said it will become the first Brazilian carrier to operate the EMB-Jet. (BRW) currently flies eight 737s and two 767-300ERs (plus two more on wet-lease for long-haul operations).
October 2007: (KLM) Engineering and Maintenance signed a five-year component maintenance and availability contract covering BRA Transportes Aereos (BRW)'s eight 737s.
November 2007: BRA Transportes Aereos (BRW) said it intended to suspend all flights pending a cash infusion it said it required to maintain operations, according to a Portuguese statement on its website and press reports from Sao Paulo. (BRW) operated eight 737s and two 767s to 26 domestic and three international destinations, "Reuters" reported. (BRW) signed a contract for 20 EMB-195s over the summer.
