June 2002: Sirocco Aerospace acquires 25% of Tupolov Design Bureau and Aviastar-SP in exchange for $280 million investment, including $95 million in Aviastar to build 5 Tu-204-120C's with (RB211)'s ordered by China Northwest Airlines (CNW) and China Southwest Airlines (XIN).
August 2002: The founder of the Aviastar shareholder, Sirocco, Egyptian Dr Ibrahim Kamel, allegedly refused to bribe Ulyanovsk bureaucrats and businessmen in exchange for their loyalty and non-interference with Aviastar. These actions have paralyzed Aviastar, and forced Sirocco to stop financing 5 Tu-204-120's, which were ordered from Aviastar by 2 Chinese carriers, China Northwest Airlines (CNW) and China Southwest Airlines (XIN).
October 2002: 2 TU-204-120C's (SU-EAG; SU-EAK), returned from HeavyLift (HVL), and wet-leased to Cougar Leasing (CLL), who took over the contract with TNT Airways (TNB) previously held by (HVL).
February 2003: EgyptAir (EGP) acquired 100% of Air Cairo (AOX) and its Tupolev fleet and operations were transferred to a new company Cairo Aviation (CAR). (AOX) is now repositioned as a new low-cost (EGP) subsidiary , offering both domestic and international charter services.
March 2003: Operates inclusive tour flights to Egypt from Europe, Afica, and Asia. Flies wet-leases for other carriers such as TNT (TNB).
June 2003: 2 Tu-204-120C's (SU-EAG; SU-EAJ) wet-leased 1 year for Atlantic Airlines (AAG) in Cairo Aviation colors.
December 2003: Changes its name from "Air Cairo" to "Cairo Aviation."

Egypt’s (KATO) Investment has ordered six MC-21s with four options from Russia’s Irkut Corporporation for its subsidiary, Cairo Aviation (CAR) at the Dubai Air Show.
The two companies may also establish a regional MC-21 Maintenance Repair & Overhaul (MRO) center at Al Alamain International Airport, which is located 184 km from Cairo. Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation said that (KATO) Investment is ready to rent the space to the aircraft manufacturer for free.
The charter carrier, Cairo Aviation (CAR), operates three passenger Tupolev Tu-204-120s and two Tu-204-120Cs cargo on dry lease from parent, Sirocco Aerospace International, which is also a member of the (KATO) Investment group.
