April 2004: Following an inspection by the (FAA), Aero Continente (COH), Peru's largest carrier was banned from flying to the USA because of safety concerns. (COH) used to operate to Miami (4/week).

May 2004: Ms Lupe Zevallos, President is being sought for extradition by the USA on charges on drug trafficking. Previous inquiries regarding the airline in this respect had focused on her brother and the Aero Continente (COH) founder, Fernando Zevallos.

June 2004: Aero Continente (COH) founder, Fernando Zevallos has been included in the USA's Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Determination Act, which blocks his USA assets and those of the airline. Zevallos, who is currently on trial in Peru for drug-related charges, denounced the move as a plot instigated by Chile's government and rival (LAN). The development makes it a crime for any US citizens to fly on Aero Continente (COH), which has been already barred from the USA over alleged safety concerns, and the airline is blocked from using USA maintenance concerns.

July 2004: Aero Continente (COH) was grounded by Peru's government when it couldn't get insurance. Global Aerospace wouldn't renew its policy after (COH) was placed on a USA drug trafficing blacklist.

Aero Continente (COH) has been sold by former President Lupe Zevallos and shareholder Ricardo Zevallos to 7 investors for $3.5 Million and has resumed flights under the name Nuevo Continente (COH).

October 2004: Had to cancel 6 flights because of late payments to PetroPeru for fuel. Flight interruptions continued as the airline had to pay cash until a $150,000 overdraft on a $300,000 credit line was paid.

Together with its pilots (FC), a USA company has bought the airline for $20M.

Peruvian government grounded (COH) again due to safety related violations.

June 2005: Nuevo Continente (COH) is Peru's major airline, flying jet airplanes daily to major cities in Peru and other destinations in South America.
