Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD)
SPAIN (KINGDOM OF SPAIN) WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1479, IT COVERS AN AREA OF 504,750 SQ KM, ITS POPULATION IS 41 MILLION, ITS CAPITAL CITY IS MADRID, AND ITS OFFICIAL LANGUAGE IS SPANISH.
February 2012: Cosmo Airlines (COS) is a new Spanish charter and wet-lease (ACMI) operator planning to launch operations this summer with A320-200s. Its first airplane will be an A320-212 (528, LY-COM), ex-Vladivostok Air (VLK), ex-(VP-BRB), operated by Avion Express (AVS) this summer.
October 2012: Spanish charter carrier, Cosmo Airlines (COS) has paid $137 million for seven Bombardier CRJ900s from Uruguay’s liquidated Pluna (PLU) at a government auction. (COS) plans to use the airplanes on its Central and Eastern European services, expanding its current fleet of two Airbus A320s.
Cosmo has a priority status through November 1 to negotiate parallel route rights granted to (PLU) or give them up, opening the doors for government negotiations with other interested parties.
(PLU) suspended operations on July 3. It operated an average 250 weekly flights linking Montevideo to destinations in Argentina, Brazil and Chile.
Pluna (PLU)’s six remaining leased CRJ900s may be sold at a future auction.
