August 2003: Global Air is a subsidiary of the Aerolineas Damojh Group, which has other "small" airline interests in Mexico.

The new airline is operating jet airplane flights from Mexico City to resort destinations, including Acapulco, Cancun, and Huatulco (737-200).

May 2012: (PAL) Airlines has taken legal action against the Chilean government asking for compensation because 2 foreign carriers have been allowed to operate on a wet-lease basis on behalf of Servicios Aéreos Río Baker. West Air Sweden operates a CRJ(F) freighter on behalf of Rio Baker which mainly serves the country's growing mining industry while Global Air (DMJ) operates 737-200 on its behalf. The only foreign carrier currently operating scheduled services in Chile is PLUNA (PLU).

May 2018: ACCDT: Cubana de Aviacion (CUB) Boeing 737-201 (JT8D-9A HK) (592-21816, /79 XA-UHZ) crashed shortly after takeoff from Havana's Jose Marti International Airport May 18, Cuban state media reported. The 737 was operated as flight DMJ 972 and was wet-leased to (CUB) by Mexico City-based charter provider Global Air (or Global Aerolineas Damojh) (DMJ), Cuba's Transport Minister said.

The 737-201 en route to Holguin, was carrying 104 passengers and 9 crew members, Cuba's President Miguel Diaz-Canel said. Reports from the scene said 3 female survivors were clinging to life on Sunday May 20.

Aviation Week's latest fleet database shows Global Air (DMJ)'s fleet consists of 2 737-200s (440-21184, /75 XA-UKW; 1565-24103, /665 XA-UMQ) and 1 737-500 (/91 XA-UZK).

Cuba's last fatal commercial accident occurred in 2010, when an Aero Caribbean ATR 72 crashed while en route to Havana from Santiago, Cuba, after encountering icing conditions, Aviation Safety Network data shows. All 68 people on board were killed. Cubana (CUB)'s last fatal accident occurred in December 1999, when a Yakovlev Yak-42D crashed on approach to Valencia, killing all 22 passengers and 12 crew on board.

* Mexican civil aviation authorities are conducting a special inspection of the charter operator at the center of the May 18 accident in Havana, and have suspended the company's operation until further notice (the 3rd such action in 8 years against Global Air (DMJ).

The Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) said it would conduct an "extraordinary verification" of Mexico City-based Global Aerolineas Damojh, or Global Air (DMJ), and ground the carrier during the check. One of (DMJ)'s Boeing 737-200s was flying for Cubana de Aviacion when it went down shortly after departing Jose Marti International Airport (HAV) May 18.

The suspension is at least the 3rd for (DMJ), which went into business in 1990. In November 2010, a nose landing-gear failure prompted the (DGAC) to shut (DMJ) down for 5 weeks. In October 2013, a complaint from a pilot (FC) triggered another special inspection and resulted in 1 aircraft being grounded for 9 weeks.

"The (DGAC) seeks to ensure maximum safety of air operations, not only by periodic checks, but also by making the necessary extraordinary visits, accompanied by the measures required to ensure that the findings of the verification are remedied," an agency statement explained.

(DGAC) said Global Air (DMJ) passed its last routine annual inspection in November 2017.

The Global Air aircraft, operating as Cubana flight 972, was en route to Holguín, Cuba, with 107 passengers and 6 crewmembers when it went down moments after departing Havana. 1 passenger taken to a hospital died May 21, Cuba's Ministry of Public Health confirmed, increasing the number of fatalities to 111.

The leased aircraft had been flying for Cubana (CUB) for about a month, Cuba Minister of Transport Adel Yzquierdo Rodríguez said.

The aircraft's cockpit voice recorder (CVR) was recovered May 19, Yzquierdo said. Investigators were still searching for the flight data recorder (FDR).
