February 2006: Chinese domestic airlines flew a record 138 million passengers in 2005, a rise of +15% over 2004 and double the number of 2000. The figure is expected to double again in the next five years, according to Gao Geng, the vice minister of the General Administration of Civil Aviation in China. Cargo and airmail throughput rose +14% to 3.04 million tons in 2005 and also is expected to double in the next five years. However, profit margins will remain tight within the sector. He noted revenues in the sector had grown to CNY170 billion/$21.09 billion at the end of 2005, but profits in the past five years had amounted to only CNY10 billion.
February 2014: At 10:00 am February 21, a brand-new Airbus A320 airplane landed smoothly at Changsha Huahuan International Airport (CSX) - - SEE PHOTO - - "H$U-A320-200-2014-02" and joined the fleet of China Southern Airlines (GUN)'s Hunan Branch (H$U), bringing its the fleet size up to 21 airplanes. The newly-introduced A320 is the fifth serially-introduced Airbus airplane since China Southern (GUN) and the People's Government of Hunan Province signed a strategic cooperation agreement in 2012.
The brand-new A320 is configured with 151 seats in total, including 8F in first-class cabins, 23PY in premium economy class and 120Y in economy class. All seats are made of comfortable material and provided with advanced entertainment systems. The arrival of the A320 will effectively lessen the transport burden in peak tourist season and improve Hunan's air connectivity to all parts of the country. Also, it will give strong support the passenger and freight transit business between Hunan and European, American, Southeast Asia, Central Asia countries and regions, via such hub airports as Guangzhou, Beijing, and Urumqi, further expanding the air channel of the region.
In addition, the 22th Airbus A320 airplane will be introduced to (H$U) by the second half of this year.
