Melaka International Airport
75350 Batu Berendam

Malaysia (Federation of Malaysia) was established in 1957, it covers an area of 329, 749 sq km, its population is 21 million, its capital city is Kuala Lumpur, and its official language is Malay.

January 2011: Hertitage Air (HTG) has wet-leased a single B Ae 146-200A (E2031, RP-C5525) jet airplane from Lionair (LIO) of Sri Lanka to operate regular charters which will initially link both the recently modernized Malacca International Airport and Kuala Terenggangu in Malaysia with Bandung in Indonesia. Additional Indonesian destinations in Sumatra, as well as Hong Kong, and points in Thailand are planned. The start-up was created in November by the Malaysia-based Kemuning Group, in partnership with the KAGUM hotels group of Indonesia: manager of several hotels in Bandung. Heritage Air (HTG) is planning to apply for its own Air Operators Certificate (AOC), which will allow it to operate dry leased airplanes. A second airplane is also planned, although conflicting reports suggest that could be another B Ae 146 or an Embraer EMB-145.

As a World Heritage site, the city of Melaka, in the Straits of Malacca has been a popular tourist destination for centuries, but Heritage Air (HTG) will also look to exploit demand from Malaysians heading for the tourist attractions of Bandung as well as from Indonesians seeking medical treatment at private hospitals in the Melaka region. Whether (HTG) can succeed in carving out a niche while operating a wet-leased airplane on charter flights, remains to be seen. (HTG) will face indirect competition, initially from relaunched Indonesian carrier Riau Airlines, but much larger low cost carriers, AirAsia (ASW) and Malaysia Airlines (MAS) new subsidiary Firefly's operations have both indicated an interest in adding Melaka to their networks.

Heritage Air (htg) operated its first flight from Melaka on January 7th - - SEE ATTACHED PHOTO - - "HTG-B AE 146-200A-2011-01."
