March 2003: Suspends services after the Bank of Algeria turned over the Khalifa Bank, Algeria's biggest private bank, to an official receiver. 3 employees of Abdelmoumene Khalifa's group were detained in Algiers last month, as they were about to board a (KHZ) bizjet for Paris, with cases containing some EUR 2 Million/$2.2 Million in undeclared cash, which had been changed on the black market. Khalifa's bank had been ordered by the Bank of Algeria to suspend all transfer of funds abroad, in November 2002, in accordance with the country's finance and credit regulations. Reportedly, the Khalifa Bank moved at least $50 Million out of Algeria.

Karim Boukadoum, (CEO), head of an Internet company, has replaced Sakina Tayebi, and 12 senior executives have been dismissed. (KHZ)'s 2 777's have been parked at Frankfurt for several weeks, and an A320 has been impounded at London Luton.

Continues to operate limited service with no more than a dozen of its previous 30 airplanes, including ATR72's on its Algiers - London Gatwick (LGW). Lessors have repossessed all leased airplanes.
