The Argentine government plans to invest $100M into the airline, then privatize the company 6 months after it begins services.

August 2004: LAFSA (LAZ) is an Argentinian national carrier operating domestic services which are flown on behalf of other local airlines, such as Southern Winds (SOW).

Parent organization/shareholders: Federal Planning Ministry (40%); Ministry of Economy (40%); & Intercargo (20%).

April 2005: LAN (LAN), Chile forms LAN Argentina (LNR) by acquiring local Argentine charter airline Aero2000, a company which belonged to Argentine businessman Miguel Ciadi. It had been set up in 2001 and has rights to fly to Cordoba, Iguazu, Calafate, Bariloche, Montevideo, Santiago de Chile, Miami, and Madrid. The Argentine Government has given the go-ahead for LAN Argentina (LNR) to be set up on condition it takes on all the staff of Argentinian Government operator Lafsa (LAZ) (1,440) and regional operator Aerovip, plus support Southern Winds (SOW) for three months.
