The predecessor to Aerochaco (ACO) was founded in 1960 by the provincial government as a state enterprise, to enhance communications between the Province of Chaco and other provinces in northern Argentina. Operating for two decades with two airplanes, including Fairchild Hiller 227B, with capacity for 40 passengers connected the cities of Resistencia Salta, San Miguel de Tucuman, Cordoba, Mendoza, Formosa, Corrientes, Posadas, Puerto Iguazu, and San Salvador de Jujuy. It was privatized in the late 1980s, changing its name to ALFA (Airline Federal Argentina), that shortly thereafter disappeared.
In 2008, the governor of Chaco Jorge Capitanich announced the creation of a trust to make operational a new version of Aerochaco (ACO). MACAIR JET (MCJ), owned by Grupo Socma, took over the operation.
