TURKEY: ONCE THE CENTER OF THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE, TURKEY WAS FOUNDED IN 1923 AS A SECULAR STATE WHOSE POPULATION IS OVERWHELMINGLY MUSLIM THOUGH NOT ARAB. A LONG-STANDING MEMBER OF NATO AND A CANDIDATE FOR MEMBERSHIP IN THE EUROPEAN UNION (EU), TURKEY HAS LOOKED TO THE WEST AS A MODEL. EXCEPT FOR BITTER WATER DISPUTES WITH SYRIA AND IRAQ, TURKEY HAS USUALLY MANAGED TO SIDESTEP REGIONAL POLITICS. WITH A DEVELOPED ECONOMY BUT LITTLE OIL, IT RELIES ON A VAST NETWORK OF MEGA DAMS FOR HYDROELECTRIC POWER AND IRRIGATION.

Turkey (the Republic of Turkey) was established in 1923, which includes Northern Cyprus (the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus - figures follow), it covers an area of 779,452 sq km, its population is 66 million, its capital is Ankara, and its official language is Turkish.

Northern Cyprus (the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) covers an area of 3,355 sq km, its population is 0.2 million, its capital is Nicosia, and its official language is Turkish.

(MHK) already operates a fleet of 7 A300 cargo airplanes, and will expand its services by moving up to the A330F Freighter.

Sedat Özkazanç Managing Director of (MNG) Airlines (MHK) said: “Holding a big portion of the cargo capacity in Turkey, (MNG) Airlines (MHK) is delighted to introduce the A330-200F into our fleet.” He added: “This new A330-243F freighter airplane will help our continued growth by providing superior fuel efficiency, capacity and range for our customers together with both charter and scheduled flights.”

The A330-243F can carry 70 tonnes of payload, with a range capability of up to 4,000 nm. The A330-200F’s range and payload capability provides flexibility for both regional and intercontinental operations, versatility to match costs and frequencies with market expectations, thereby allowing operators to grow existing business and expand into new routes. The A330-243F targets the ‘mid-size’ freighter segment which is forcasted to be the core of future freighter demand, and will require >1,320 airplanes in the next 20 years. To date, Airbus (EDS) has won >1,200 orders for the various versions of the A330, with nearly 900 airplanes currently flying with >120 customers and operators worldwide.

(MHK) will look to go paperless across its entire fleet of freighter airplanes including the A330-200F, A300-600 and 747-400. “Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro will provide the foundation for (MNG) Airlines (MHK) to rid their operation of paper content and reduce fuel consumption through weight reduction,” said Tim Huegel Director Aviation Portfolio Management at Jeppesen.
