June 2007: At the Dubai Air Show, Nile Air (NLA) signed a Memo of Understanding (MOU) with Airbus (EDS) for 9 orders A321 airplanes. The 1st of the A321s will be delivered in early 2013. Intends to start operations in November 2009 with 2 A320s leased from (GECAS) (GEF).

January 2009: $792 million 9 orders (November 2012) A321-200s. Nile Air (NLA) is owned by Saudi Arabia's largest travel services firm, the Al-Tayyar Travel Group. The founder of (NLA) Dr Nasser Al-Tayyar, said the firm would raise the bulk of the money for airplane purchases through Islamic bank loans and that it has the backing of 2 financial institutions.

(NLA) will initially launch flights to Saudi Arabia before beginning services to other Gulf destinations. (NLA) also plans to sell 30% of its shares to the public in an initial public offering (IPO) and will list the shares on the Cairo bourse in 2010/2011.

November 2009: Nile Air (NLA) will serve Jeddah (launch destination); Riyadh; Medina; Dammam; Kuwait; Dubai; Doha; and Bahrain with passenger, freight, and airmail services.

August 2010: Nile Air (NLA) A320-232 (3219, SU-BQC), is shown visiting London Heathrow Airport (LHR), arriving on a Libyan Arab (LAA) service from Tripoli - - SEE ATTACHED PHOTO - - "NLA-A320-232-2010-08."

December 2010: Nile Air (NLA) will launch 2x-weekly, Cairo to Baghdad service on January 11, and weekly, Cairo to Erbil to Sulaymaniyah to Cairo service the following day, aboard an A320. It will become the 1st Egyptian carrier to offer service between Egypt and Iraq after nearly 2 decades of service suspension.

February 2014: Nile Air (NLA) is a privately-owned Egyptian airline operating scheduled services from Cairo and Alexandria to destinations in Saudi Arabia, including Gassim, Jeddah, Taif, Tabuk, and Yanbu. There is also a scheduled connection between Alexandria and Kuwait. Charter flights and (ACMI) wet-leasing services are also offered.

March 2014: Nile Air (NLA) increased its presence in Saudi Arabia with the addition of a new service from its Cairo (CAI) base to Jeddah (JED) on March 11th. The 1,234 km sector to the countryís major urban center on the coast of the Red Sea will be served 2x-weekly (Tuesdays and Fridays), utilizing (NLA)ís 151-seat A320s. (NLA)ís 5th route to Saudi Arabia will face extensive competition from EGYPTAIR (EGP)ís 9x-daily flights and Saudia (SVA)'s 4x-daily services.

October 2014: News Item A-1: Saudia (SVA) is set to commence its 1st scheduled international services out of Gassim later next year. Schedule data shows (SVA) will connect the central Saudi Arabian town with Dubai International with a 6x-weekly service beginning January 1, 2015. Operations are on board either A320 or E170 equipment.

Though Air Arabia ((IATA) Code: G9, Sharjah) (ABZ), AlMasria Universal Airlines ((IATA) Code: UJ, based at Alexandria El Nohza) (ALU), flydubai ((IATA) Code: FZ, based at Dubai International) (FDB), Nesma Airlines ((IATA) Code: NE, based at Cairo International) (NSM), Nile Air ((IATA) Code:NP, based at Cairo International) (NLA), Qatar Airways ((IATA) Code: QR, based at Doha Hamad International) (QTA), and Turkish Airlines ((IATA) Code: TK, based at Istanbul Atatürk) (THY) all offer international connections to the airport, Saudia (SVA) has kept its services entirely domestic, offering flights to Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, and Riyadh.

July 2015: Nile Air (NLA) now serves Baghdad (BGW) following the start of weekly (Fridays) flights on July 24 to (BGW), the Iraqi capital from Cairo (CAI). The 1,260 km route will be served by (NLA)ís fleet of 4 A320s. The airport pair is already served by both EgyptAir (EGP) and Iraqi Airways (IRQ), who both operate flights between the 2 capital cities 3x-weekly. This brings to 9 the number of destinations served by (NLA) from Cairo, of which 6 are in Saudi Arabia. The other 2 airports served are Kuwait City and Port Sudan.

August 2015: Nile Air (NLA) launched services between Cairo (CAI) and Jouf (AJF) on August 7. Flights on the 837 km sector will operate 2x-weekly (Fridays and Sundays) using (NLA)ís A320s, and faces direct competition from Nesma Airlines, which also operates a 2x-weekly service.

July 2017: A321-231 (2476, SU-BQN), ex-(N587NK), AerCap (DEA) leased.
