MOVES FROM PALMDALE TO NASA KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLORIDA.

MARCH 2002: $900 MILLION CONTRACT FROM BOEING (TBC) TO DEVELOP AND PRODUCE GROUND-BASED BOOST VEHICLES FOR THE BALLISTIC MISSILE DEFENSE SYSTEM. THE 8-YEAR CONTRACT IS PART OF THE GROUND-BASED MID-COURSE DEFENSE SYSTEM. THE BOOSTERS WILL CARRY ADVANCED EXO ATMOSPHERIC KILL VEHICLES INTENDED TO DESTROY LONG-RANGE ENEMY MISSILES IN FLIGHT. ABOUT 70 BOOSTERS ARE CURRENTLY EXPECTED TO BE BUILT DURING THE NEXT 7 YEARS.

January 2003: $50 million of contract modifications from Boeing (TBC) to develop, test and produce interceptor boost vehicles for the USA Missile Defense Agency's ground-based mid-course defense system. The contract now extends through 2007 and has increased in value to $450 million. Orbital Sciences Corporation (OBS) has optional orders for production of 50 interceptor boosters worth an estimated $545 million.
