THE AIRLIFT TRANSPORT DIVISION USES AIRPLANES FOR STRATEGIC AND TACTICAL, MILITARY AND HUMANITARIAN, BRIGADE AIRDROP AND AEROMEDICAL EVACUATION.

Qatar was established in 1971, it covers an area of 11,437 sq km, its population is 618,000, its capital city is Doha, and its official language is Arabic. In recent years, Qatar has modernized very rapidly, being funded by oil, and the world's largest natural gas field. Qatar is where "Al Jazeera," the powerful, global Arabic-language, TV news network is based.

Situated halfway up the western shore of the Arabian Gulf, Qatar is almost completely surrounded by sea. It borders Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the south, and Bahrain in the northwest. Well-preserved natural and historical sites, coupled with top-caliber business, sports, dining, shopping, and accommodation facilities, render Qatar the perfect gateway to the Arabian Gulf. The commercial and administrative center, Doha, hosts the international airport, seaport, hotels, and sports facilities. Doha is built around a beautiful bay, along which there is a 7 km long corniche lined with lush gardens. Today, Doha's cosmopolitan spirit strikes a perfect balance with its rich cultural and religious heritage. Qatar's economy is very strong, due to its abundance of oil and natural gas reserves. This means that there is significant ongoing investment being made into the local infrastructure to support high standards of living and the successful development of tourism. The terrain is generally flat. However, there are some hills and sand dunes, which reach an altitude of 40 meters above sea level in the areas of Dukhan and Jebel Fuwairit in the western and northern parts of the country and Khor Al-Udeid in the south. Qatar has a desert climate of hot summers and relatively warm winters. In the summer, the temperature ranges between 25 and 46 degrees centigrade. Rainfall in the winter is minimal, and on average, does not exceed 75.2 mm per year.

The Qataris are descended through ancient Arabian lines of kinship. This is due to the country's geographical location and proximity to the Arabian Peninsula, on one hand, and to the close historical heritage, which the State shares with the rest of the States of the Arabian peninsula, on the other. The present population is estimated at 900,000 inhabitants, most of whom reside in Doha, the capital city.
The rest of the population is scattered among a number of towns and villages including Dukhan, Mesaieed, Al-Wakrah, Al-Khor, Madinat Al-Shamal, and other modern residential centres. Islam is the official religion of the State of Qatar and Shari'a (Islamic Law) is the principal source of legislation in the country, while Arabic is the official language.

In spite of the changes that took place in the world oil market in 1991, as a result of the conditions that prevailed in 1990, notably the Gulf crisis; the disintegration of the Soviet Union, increased concern over environment protection, and continued effort by industrial nations to rationalize energy consumption, Qatar's national economy has once again lent proof to the vitality and soundness of its basic structure and ability to stand firm in the face of an unstable world economy. Qatar's enormous gas reserves have been the main source of national income. Since the inauguration of the new oil refinery in 1983, the country has realized self sufficiency in oil products. It is worth mentioning that Qatar has one of the world's three largest gas reserves and LNG export began at the end of the 1996. However, the State has not confined its aspirations just to that. It has been following a policy based on the principle of diversifying the sources of national income through expanding industrial and agricultural production bases, developing human resources, assigning a bigger role to the private sector, working to realize a surplus in the balance of payments by increasing exports and decreasing imports, and reducing the State's national budget deficit by applying necessary financial and monetary policies and corrective program, in order to achieve reasonable growth rates.

Today, a number of international companies and agencies have begun opening branches in Qatar, aware that it is a profitable and efficient place to do business and take advantage of the tremendous opportunities.

NOVEMBER 1998: 707 EXECUTIVE JET IS FOR SALE AT $5.8 MILLION. THE AIRPLANE HAS A STATEROOM INTERIOR, COMTRAN STAGE 2 HUSHKITS (9,288 HOURS, 3,552 CYCLES).

FEBRUARY 1999: 707 EXECUTIVE JET SOLD TO COMMODORE AVIATION, MIAMI.

June 2011: There are currently 232 C-17s in service worldwide — 22 with international customers. The US Air Force (USF), including active Guard and Reserve units, has 210. Other international customers include the Qatar Amiri Flight (QAT), the UK Royal Air Force (RRR), the Canadian Department of Defense (DND), the Royal Australian Air Force (RAA), the (UAE) Air Force, the Indian Air Force (IDF), and the 12-member Strategic Airlift Capability initiative of (NATO) plus the Partnership for Peace nations.

The C-17 is the only airplane capable of performing all the airlift requirements — strategic and tactical, military and humanitarian, brigade airdrop and aeromedical evacuation — using either standard runways or short, austere airfields. The C-17 can transport large payloads across vast ranges without refueling and operate in extremely hot and cold climates. With a full payload of 170,000 pounds, a C-17 can fly 2,400 nautical miles and land in 3,000 feet or less.

As a member of the worldwide C-17 “virtual fleet,” C-17s are supported through Boeing (TBC)’s C-17 Globemaster III Sustainment Partnership, a proven multinational Performance-Based Logistics program. Through the virtual fleet concept, C-17 customers receive comprehensive worldwide logistics support (spares, support equipment, Tech Orders, sustaining Engineering, and on-site field teams) through use of shared resources across the entire fleet. This highly successful program ensures high levels of mission readiness by providing all C-17 customers — regardless of fleet size — cost-effective access to an extensive support program.

February 2012: 747-8K8 Intercontinental (37544, A7-HHE - - SEE PHOTO - - "QAT-747-8K8 BBJ - 2012-02"), delivery. It is the 1,439th 747 built since 1968.

Captain Steve Taylor, who serves as President of Boeing Business Jets (BCJ) was at the controls for the non-public flight plan. The 747-8K8 was ferried to Boeing (TBC)'s Wichita, Kansas Global Transport & Executive Systems (GTES) facility for installation of the Greenpoint Technologies Aeroloft cabin. The Aeroloft grows the 747-8's cabin area to 444.6 sq m/4,786 sq ft with 8 individual berths positioned in the upper crown area in the aft part of the airplane's cabin between the empennage and the iconic hump.

Following the Aeroloft installation, the airplane will travel to Hamburg, Germany for completion at Lufthansa Technik (DLH) (LTK), wrapping up an approximately 24-month conversion process before entering service with (QAT).

To date, 7 customers have ordered 9 747-8 (VIP) airplanes, 8 of which will be delivered for completion in 2012. (TBC) expects to deliver between 35 and 42 747-8s and 747-8Fs, respectively, in 2012. Boeing 747-8 VP & General Manager Elizabeth Lund said production for the 747-8 passenger and freighter variants will accelerate to 2 airplanes per month from 1.5. Lund said the fuselage and wing build-up areas are already running at the higher rate and final body join will advance in the middle of the year.

December 2012: Boeing (TBC) delivered the Qatar Emiri Air Force (QAT)’s 4th C-17 Globemaster III today in Long Beach. The delivery reflects Qatar (QAT)’s agreement with the US government to acquire 2 additional C-17s, which brings the Qatar Emiri Air Force (QEAF) fleet of the world’s most advanced air lifters to a total of 4.

March 2014: Airbus Defence & Space has been selected by Qatar to supply 2 A330 MRTT new generation air-to-air refuelling airplanes for the Qatar Emiri Air Force (QAT)

Qatar´s choice of the A330 MRTT makes it the 7th nation to select the type, following Australia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the United Kingdom (UK) which have ordered a total of 34 airplanes, and India which is in the final stages of contractual negotiations for 6 airplanes. A total of 17 airplanes are currently in service.

The A330 MRTT is derived from the highly successful A330 commercial airliner and proven in-service as a tanker/transport with multi-role capability. The Airbus Defense & Space A330 MRTT is the only new generation strategic tanker/transport airplane flying and available today. The large 111 tonnes/ 245,000 lb basic fuel capacity of the successful A330-200 airliner, from which it is derived, enables the A330 MRTT to excel in air-to-air refueling missions without the need for any additional fuel tank. The A330 MRTT is offered with a choice of proven air-to-air refueling systems including an advanced Airbus Defense & Space Aerial Refueling Boom System, and/or a pair of under-wing hose and drogue pods, and/or a Fuselage Refueling Unit.

Thanks to its true wide body fuselage, the A330 MRTT can also be used as a pure transport airplane able to carry up to 300 troops, or a payload of up to 45 tonnes/99,000 lb. It can also easily be converted to accommodate up to 130 stretchers for Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC). To date, a total of 34 A330 MRTTs have been ordered by 5 customers (Australia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the United Kingdom), with one (Saudi Arabia) having already placed a repeat order.
