Bangladesh (People's Republic of Bangladesh), was established in 1971, it covers an area of 143,998 sq km, its population is 122 million, its capital city is Dhaka, and its official language is Bengali.

General Information for Visitors to Bangladesh:

The People's Republic of Bangladesh, is located in SE Asia. It is surrounded by the Bay of Bengal, the Gangetic plains of India, and the forests of Myanmar. The country is primarily a low-lying plain of about 144,000 square kms, criss-crossed by innumerable brooks, streams, and rivers, including the Padma, Jamuna, Meghna, and Karnaphuli. It is a fertile, deltaic land, mostly flat except for a range of hills in the SE. Much of the land is characterized by wooded marshland and jungle. Although Bangladesh emerged as an independent country in 1971, its history stretches back thousands of years, and it has long been known as a crossroads of history and culture. Hindus, Mongolians, Buddhists, Muslims, and Europeans have, at various times, all exerted considerable influence over the land. Today Bangladesh is a predominantly Muslim country, but one in which people of different religions and cultural backgrounds live in harmony. Agriculture predominates the Bangladesh economy. Major products include rice, jute, wheat, potato, pulse, sugarcane, tea, and tobacco. Jute, tea, seafood, and handicrafts are among the country's primary exports. The industrial sector is growing rapidly, and Bangladesh is gaining an international reputation for products such as garments and leather goods. Bangladesh's climate is subtropical, with temperatures ranging from daytime lows of 8 degrees celsius in the cool season to 40 degrees celcius in the summer. Annual rainfall ranges from 160 cm in the west to 400 cm in the NE, with heaviest rains during the monsoon (June to September). Autumn (October to November), winter (December to February), and summer (March to May) make up the country's other seasons.

October 2013: Regent Airways (RAH) started its 2nd international route from Dhaka (DAC) in Bangladesh to Bangkok (BKK) in Thailand on October 9th. Flights will operate 4x-weekly using one of (RAH)s newly acquired 737-700s, fitted with 114Y economy seats and 12C business class seats. This is (RAH)s 2nd international route after launching flights to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia in July.

Competition on the new Bangkok route is provided by Bangkok Airways (PGB) (daily flights), Thai Airways (TII) (also daily flights), Biman Bangladesh (BNG) (4x-weekly), United Airways (UBD) (3x-weekly) and Druk Air (DRU) (2x-weekly).

At present, Regent (RAH) operates a total of 6 routes, all of which originate in its Dhaka hub. Of these, 4 are to domestic destinations: to Chittagong, Jessore, Coxs Bazar, and Sylhet. The remaining 2 involve international destinations in SE Asia: to Kuala Lumpur (launched with daily frequencies on July 15) and Bangkok (3x-weekly) flights described above). Competition is tough, especially in the 2 international markets, in which (RAH) faces (amongst others) such established international players like Malaysia Airlines (MAS) (to Kuala Lumpur) and Thai Airways (TII) (to Bangkok).

Hong Kong, Kolkata, and Singapore have been indicated as (RAH)s future destinations.

November 2013: Regent Airways (RAH) has made Kolkata (CCU) in India its 3rd international destination from its base in Dhaka (DAC). On November 18th (RAH) launched daily flights on the short 235 km sector using its newly acquired 737-700s. Competition is provided by Air India (AIN) and Jet Airways (JPL), as well as Biman Bangladesh Airlines (BNG) and United Airways (UBD).

December 2013: Regent Airways (RAH) has selected Singapore (SIN) as its 4th international destination from Dhaka (DAC). On December 14th, (RAH) began operating 5x-weekly on the 2,880 km route using 737-700s. There is plenty of competition on the route provided by; Tigerair Singapore (TGR) (10x-weekly), Singapore Airlines (SIA) (7x-) and Biman Bangladesh Airlines (BNG) (6x-). (RAH)s other international routes from Dhaka are Bangkok, Kolkata, and Kuala Lumpur.

April 2016: Regent Airways (RAH) has begun flying to Oman. (RAH) started 4x-weekly flights on April 7 from Dhaka (DAC) to Muscat (MCT) via Chittagong (CGP). (RAH) will use a new 183Y-seat 737-800 on the route. Competition will be provided by Biman Bangladesh Airlines (BNG) and Oman Air (OMR) who both operate non-stop from Muscat to both Chittagong and Dhaka. Mr Mashruf Habib Managing Director of Regent Airways (RAH), said: The dream and vision of Regent Airways (RAH) is to be the flying partner of the Bangladeshi expatriates world wide. We also try to make the travel on air routes more comfortable and cheaper. Following our success on prevailing international routes, particularly Malaysia and Singapore, we have started a new air route to the Middle East now.

(RAH)s other international destinations currently include Bangkok, Kolkata, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore.
