January 2008: Oman is planning to build 3 new regional airports in Adam, Haima, and Shaleem. The government has allocated $43.9 million for consultancy studies, design and supervision of the proposed airports, the Arab Air Carriers Organization reported. The country also is planning to expand facilities at Muscat and Salalah.
November 2009: Oman Air (OMR) signed a contract for 5 E175s plus 5 purchase rights, with 4 of the 5 firm airplanes slated to fly in (OMR) colors and the 5th to be used by the Royal Omani Police. The deal is worth $177.5 million at list prices and could double if all 5 purchase rights are converted. 1st delivery is scheduled for the 2011 1st quarter, Embraer said, adding that (OMR) will be the Gulf region's 1st E-Jet operator. It will configure the airplane with 12 business class (C) and 60 economy (Y) seats.

September 2012: The 1st C-130J Super Hercules for the Sultanate of Oman (RFO) was formally accepted at ceremonies, August 30, at Lockheed Martin’s Marietta facility. This is the 1st of 3 C-130Js on order for (RFO) and is scheduled for delivery later this year. The new C-130J will be used to support internal country operations where its ability to operate out of remote austere airstrips will be invaluable. Headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs about 120,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation’s net sales for 2011 were $46.5 billion.
April 2013: Rockwell Collins’ Flight2™ avionics system has been selected for the Royal Air Force of Oman (OMA)/(RFO)’s C-130 upgrade program. The equipment will be installed on 3 airplanes with work scheduled to begin in 2013.
“Royal Air Force of Oman (OMA)/(RFO) pilots (FC) will experience greater situational awareness and communications capabilities with the highly advanced avionics on board these airplanes,” said Troy Brunk, VP & General Manager of Airborne Solutions for Rockwell Collins. “Through our work with (ST) Aerospace and the Royal Air Force of Oman (OMA)/(RFO), we look forward to continuing our long legacy of helping C-130 pilots (FC) achieve their missions with these important upgrades.”
The Rockwell Collins Flight2 avionics system will provide the Royal Air Force of Oman (OMA)/(RFO) C-130 airplanes with unrestricted access to global airspace by meeting Communication, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) airspace requirements that are currently identified. Included in the avionics upgrade are new primary flight displays, state-of-the-art flight management system (FMS), autopilot, communication radios, navigation sensors and surveillance systems including MultiScanTM Hazard Detection Weather Radar, Traffic Alert Collision Avoidance System, Terrain Awareness and Warning System and digital map. The upgrade will provide (OMA)/(RFO) with state-of-the-art capabilities consistent with the world’s leading C-130 operators.
Airplane installation and integration will be performed by (ST) Aerospace, the prime contractor for this upgrade program, at its facility in Singapore.
