SN Brussels Airlines (DAT)/(EBA) signed a cooperation agreement with Air Senegal International (SNG). From December 1, the Senegalese airline (SNG) will add its code and sell seats on the six weekly flights operated by (DAT)/(EBA) between Brussels and Dakar with A330-300s.

June 2009: Royal Air Maroc (RAM) and the Senegalese government signed a Memo of Understanding (MOU) to establish a new state-controlled airline, ending the dispute related to the April closure of Air Senegal International (SNG). Senegal's "APS" news agency reported that the parties will work together to set up the carrier, which will have access to (RAM)'s technical, commercial and operational services.
November 2009: Senegal's new national carrier has been renamed "Senegal Airlines" (SNG). The new airline intends to start flying early next year with leased airplanes.
(SNG)'s founding capital is valued at $34 million, with private investors holding 64%, the government 16%, employees 5% and the remainder available to the public. It intends to serve more than >20 destinations from Dakar including Paris, Milan, and Brussels with a fleet comprising "new, modern" single- and twin-aisle airplanes. Modou Khaya was named (CEO). January 2011: Senegal Airlines (SNG) intends to debut later this month using two A320-214s (799, 6V-AIH; 879, 6V-AII and a third this spring) based in Dakar. Its initial destinations will be neighboring cities like Abidjan, Bamako, Banjul, Conakry, Nouakchott, and Ouagadougou. Will the third time be a charm for Senegal? A pan-west African carrier called Air Afrique (AFR) collapsed after "9/11" and a joint venture (JV) with Royal Air Maroc (RAM) called Senegal International collapsed in 2009. This time, the carrier is just 36% government owned and is supported operationally by Emirates (EAD), which perhaps received Dakar flight rights as part of that arrangement. Advised by (TASC) Aviation, an Airbus (EDS)-owned airline consultancy based in Dubai, Senegal Airlines (SNG) plans two classes of service, five different fare products and A330 flights to Europe and even Asia by 2013. February 2011: (AJW) Aviation reached a five-year power-by-the-hour contract with Senegal Airlines (SNG), covering (SNG)’s first two A320-214s. (SNG) has purchased six Airbus (EDS) airplanes and will take delivery of two more this year.

January 2012: Trade Air (IATA) Code: 8P, based in Zagreb has wet-leased a Fokker F 100 to Senegal Airlines (SNG) for several weeks to replace an A320-200 that was temporarily out of service after a landing incident in Bamako.
March 2012: Solenta Aviation ((IATA) Code SL, based at Lanseria airport (HLA)) has wet-leased its single ATR72-200 to Senegal Airlines (SNG) replacing an ATR42-500 previously operated by Cimber Sterling (STR) on regional routes from Dakar Yoff airport - Léopold Sédar Senghor International airport (DKR) to Banjul International airport (BJL), Bissau Oswaldo Vieira International airport (OXB), Cap Skirring airport (CSK), Nouakchott airport (NKC), Praia International airport (RAI) and Ziguinchor airport (ZIG).
April 2012: Senegal Airlines (SNG) was forced to suspend operations to Bissau Oswaldo Vieira International (OXB) following a military coup in Guinea Bissau in the evening of April 12. The military has closed the country's airspace until further notice.
September 2012: A new international airport serving Dakar, Senegal will open in the first quarter of 2014, Prime Minister, Abdul Mbaye told the country’s National Assembly.
Work on the new Aéroport International Blaise Diagne de Diass (AIBD) began in 2007 and was originally targeted for completion in late 2011. The new airport is being developed at Diass, about 45 km from Dakar, and will have an initial operating capacity to handle 3 million passengers a year from a single runway. A second phase of development could ultimately provide capacity for 10 million passengers a year with development of a second runway.
The airport is being built on a site of about 4,500 hectares, which dwarfs the existing Léopold Sédar Senghor International Airport (AILSS), just 9 km from the center of Dakar, which is overflowing its 800-hectare site. Total development cost of (AIBD) is estimated to be €566 million/$725 million, funded largely by loans from a number of banks that reportedly include the African Development Bank, the French Development Agency, the West African Development Bank, and other banks from South Africa, Canada and Saudi Arabia.
A new urban center will be developed around the airport that the Prime Minister said would “contribute to the decongestion of the capital.”
Although government officials said last year the existing airport would be closed when the new airport opened, recent reports in the local media suggest it may at least initially “complement” (AILSS).
In addition, the Senegal government announced last month that it planned to raise the level of regional airfields to open up the interior of the country.
October 2012: Air Europa (ARE) has wet-leased its A330-200 (745, EC-JQG) to Senegal Airlines (SNG) for this year's Hajj charter season. The airplane has returned to (ARE) after performing a series of flights carrying passengers from Dakar Yoff-Léopold Sédar Senghor International (DKR) to Madinah Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz (MED). (ARE) will then operate flights in the other directions after the Hajj.
December 2013: Senegal Airlines ((IATA) Code: DN, based at Dakar) (SNG) could file for bankruptcy in the next few days, should the Senegalese government not extend the struggling carrier a much needed financial lifeline. "If this company is not restructured as a matter of urgency, it risks being forced to suspend operations in the next 48 hours because it can no longer bear the financial burden. (SNG) could cease flying at any time, if the State does not respond quickly," Badara Fall, the Secretary General of the airline's trade union told the "African Koaci" website. To make matters worse, Senegalese news reports claim that President, Macky Sall's latest cabinet meeting completely skirted the issue, preferring instead to debate the ongoing modernization of the country's airports. Last week, the Senegalese Minister of Air Transport, Oumar Gueye reiterated that (SNG) was close to bankruptcy. Launched in 2009 to replace defunct predecessor, Air Sénégal International ((IATA) Code: V7, based in Dakar), Senegal Airlines is owned by the Senegalese government (36%) and a consortium of local interests (Groupement National des Privés du Sénégal, Groupements de Prestataires Aéroportuaires and Fédération des Assureurs du Sénégal) with 64%.
(SNG) currently operates 4 airplanes to 13 countries, 15 destinations on 27 routes and 20 daily flights.
June 2014: Senegal Airlines (SNG) has concluded its Airbus operations with the recent return of its last remaining A320-200 (799, 6V-AIH), to lessor, (CIT) Aerospace (TCI). As it stands, the Senegalese national carrier continues to operate a 737-33A (25719, G-STRJ) and a CRJ-100 wet-leased from Eastern SkyJets ((IATA) Code: EE, based at Dubai International) and CemAir (KEM), respectively.
Despite government efforts to find new local investors, Senegal Airlines (SNG) remains in critical condition, given the poor state of its finances. In January, it was revealed that South African Airways (SAA) and Ethiopian Airlines (ETH) were among a list of carriers that Dakar had courted with a view to their taking over the crippled airline.
However, (SAA) has since discounted itself from the talks, when South African media reports claimed (SAA) Chairwoman, Dudu Myeni and another board member, Lindi Nkosi-Thomas, had accused (CEO), Monwabisi Kalawe of "serious" breaches of governance claiming he had negotiated the purchase of Senegal Airlines (SNG) shares without board consent.
According to the "Beeld Afrikaans" newspaper, an Auditor General's investigation into Kalawe's dealings reveal he had allegedly been trying to acquire a private investor's shares in Senegal Airlines (SNG) with (SAA)'s board only discovering the move, when the Senegalese government approached them about the proposed sale.
Senegal Airlines (SNG) currently operates 2 airplanes and serves 12 countries, 13 destinations, 23 routes and 12 daily flights.

April 2015: Senegal has scrapped visa requirements for foreign visitors and will slash taxes on air fares, as it seeks to revive a tourism sector crippled by high costs and a regional Ebola outbreak.
The cost and administrative hassle of visas, coupled with taxes on air tickets, led to a fall in the number of visitors to the country.
The new measure on visa-free travel will come into effect on May 1, President, Macky Sall said in an address to the nation.
Sall also announced that government taxes on air fares would be cut by half in a bid to make Senegal a more competitively priced destination. It was not clear when the taxes on air fares would be cut.
Many hotels along Senegal's coastline that were once full of French visitors, closed early this tourist season, as fears over an Ebola outbreak in neighboring Guinea and nearby Liberia plus Sierra Leone came on top of a gradual decline in the industry.
Senegal recorded one case of Ebola last year but prevented any further spread.
Senegal is looking for a strategic partner to relaunch its indebted state carrier, Senegal Airlines (SNG) ahead of the opening of a new international airport next year, as it seeks to become a hub for air travel in West Africa.
July 2015: The Nigerian government on July 10 said it has no plan to ban Liberian airlines from coming into the country, following a fresh outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease in the West African nation.
A fresh case of Ebola was detected in Liberia, nearly two months after the West African country was declared free of the virus by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The Liberian authorities are monitoring at least 100 people thought to have been in contact with a 17-year-old boy, Abraham Memaigar, who died on June 28 in Margibi County, Liberia.
Spokesperson for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Fan Ndubuoke said in Lagos, the country's commercial hub, that both inbound and outbound passengers were being screened for the virus by Port Health Officials.
He told reporters that the Ebola Prevention and Control was a collaborative effort by relevant agencies, saying adequate facilities were in place at the Port Health Office, where inbound and outbound passengers were adequately screened.
According to him, rather than banning the airlines, the various agencies have intensified necessary preventive measures at all the international airports in the country.
He assured the public and intending passengers that all government agencies were on their guard not to allow any passenger who refused to be screened into the country.
He added that the authority would not hesitate to sanction any airline that violated the mandatory screening at its various check points.

Air Senegal (SNG) has firmed an order for 2 Airbus A330neos, following an (MOU) signed in November 2017 at the Dubai Air Show. The order makes the national carrier of Senegal the 1st airline in Africa to select the new re-engined A330 version, which is powered by Rolls-Royce (RRC) (Trent 7000) engines.
The order was signed in Dakar by Air Senegal (SNG) (CEO) Philippe Bohn and Airbus (EDS) Head Commercial Aircraft, Africa & Middle East, Fouad Attar, in the presence of the French Republic President Emmanuel Macron on a state visit to Senegal and Republic of Senegal President Macky Sall.
Air Senegal plans to launch operations this year.
Bohn said the 2 aircraft will contribute to developing the new carrier’s medium- and long-haul network. “It is important for us to begin our commercial activities with aircraft that are both reliable and economical, while offering our passengers unrivaled comfort. This order demonstrates our ambitions for this new airline,” he said.
Airbus (EDS) launched the A330neo program in July 2014, the latest generation in its wide body family.
