May 2009: Strategic Airlines (STC) signed an agreement with Solomon Airlines (SOI) to provide an A320-200 for Brisbane - Honiara for Monday, Wednesday and Friday operations starting in August 2009.

Bill Tyson, (SOI) Chairman said "The airplane will give (SOI) the added capacity required to meet the growing tourism trends at somewhere around +18% increase annually; and also beds down certainty in the future of our international operation by securing a longer term arrangement that has capacity for growth." (STC) Executive Director Michael James supported the statement "Besides the advantage of a dedicated A320 to (SOI) (the airplane will also carry larger amounts of cargo as well as increase seating capacity).

Additionally, it will have the ability to ensure tankerage of more fuel at a reduced price in Brisbane (thus offering greater savings and more fuel economy)."

August 2009: Strategic Airlines (STC), a scheduled, charter and (ACMI) wet-lease operator, said it received an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the French (DGAC). (STC) plans to operate 2 A320s in Europe. 1 already is flying on wet-lease with Solomon Airlines (SOI) and the 2nd is expected to be available this month for (ACMI) and charter flights. October 2011: Solomons (SOI) (CEO) Ron Sumsum accused of bribery by Solomon Islands Finance Minister, Gordon Darcy Lilo (source - "Solomon Star" newspaper "Honiara"). Lilo also made comments that (SOI)'s leased A320 had not been approved by the government. (SOI)'s DHC-6-310 airplanes remained grounded following the fatal crash of a Papua New Guinea (PNG) Airlines Bombardier (BMB) Dash 8 in which 28 people were killed.

September 2012: Solomons (SOI), the flag carrier of the Pacific state of Solomon Islands, expanded the domestic network it offers from its base in Honiara (HIR) with services to both Auki (AKS) on Malaita Island, and Jajao (JJA) on St Isabel Island. 3 and 2x-weekly services are offered respectively, all of which will be operated with the (SOI)’s Britten-Norman Islander airplane seating up to 9 passengers.

December 2013: Solomons - Solomon Airlines ((IATA) Coast IE, based at Honiara) (SOI) will terminate all flights to Balalae with effect from January 2, 2014. (SOI) says the move was brought on because of "substantial" outstanding arrears owed it by the agent stationed on the island. “We have been in talks with the agent to recover the arrears but there has been no conclusive outcome and we have no other choice but to refer the matter legally and take this action in the immediate term," Solomons (SOI) General Manager Operations & Commercial Gus Kraus, told the "Solomon Starr News." Interviews with new prospective agents will be undertaken in the New Year. This is the 2nd such time that Solomon Airlines (SOI) has had to withdraw from Balalae. (SOI) serves Balalae, an island of the Shortland Islands Group, from both Gizo and Honiara.

According to (SOI)’s winter schedule, (SOI) operates a 1 A320, 1 Dash 8-100, 2 Twin Otters and an Islander.

March 2015: News Item A-1: Despite a slowdown in Southeast Asia’s more developed markets, the remote aviation market in Oceania is continuing to grow. In the coming months, new routes will be introduced in Papua New Guinea, East Java and the Solomon Islands.

National flag carrier, Solomon Airlines (SOI) will launch nonstop flights to Sydney from its Honiara base at the beginning of June. (SOI) currently offers 4x-weekly flights to Brisbane, and will add a single weekly direct flight to Sydney’s Kingsford Smith using an Airbus A320 from June 2.

Indonesian domestic carrier, Susi Air is also expanding, with plans to establish a new East Java hub at Trunojoyo Airport, in Sumenep, on Madura Island. The new location will stretch the coverage from Susi Air’s existing 4 hubs at Jakarta’s low-cost carrier (LCC) hub at Halim Perdanakusuma, Medan’s Kualanamu International, Balikpapan and Jayapura.

Since the recent management buyout from previous owners, Philippine Airlines (PAL) has begun expanding its network with a new nonstop flight from Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International to Papua New Guinea (PNG)’s Port Moresby airport.

(PAL), the Filipino flag carrier has applied for route permission from the Filipino Civil Aeronautics Board to take over unused schedules previously allocated to low cost carrier (LCC) Cebu Air (CEB), offering a 4x-weekly schedule. Currently, the route has only 1 carrier (Air Niugini (NIU)) offering direct flights with 3x-weekly service to Manila.

News Item A-2: Solomons - Solomon Airlines ((IATA) Code: IE, based at Honiara) (SOI) is to wet-lease a 737-300 (28732, VH-ONU) from Nauru Airlines ((IATA) Code: ON, based at Nauru) (NAU), while its sole jet, an A320-200 (302, H4-BUS), undergoes scheduled annual maintenance in Manila, Philippines, from March 10 to March 29.

The 737 will cover Solomon Airlines (SOI)'s 4x-weekly, Honiara - Brisbane International services and weekly services to Port Vila, Vanuatu, and Nadi, Fiji.

(SOI) also operates a Dash 8-100 on flights throughout the archipelago.

November 2015: Solomon Airlines (SOI) begins 2x-weekly, Honiara - Nadi A320 service on November 4.
