May 2009: Astra Airlines (SZZ) of Greece acquired a second 99-seat BAe 146-300 from BAE Systems Asset Management. The Thessaloniki-based charter and wet-lease (ACMI) carrier took its 1st of the type last July and will use the new airplane to launch its 1st scheduled flight to Kiev.

Astra Airlines (SZZ) has emerged as the winner of the reallocation of Greek domestic public service obligation routes with the routes from Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International airport (ATH) to Sitia airport (JSH), and from Thessaloniki Makedonia airport (SKG) to Kalamata airport (KLX), Kerkyra Ioannis Kapodistrias International airport (CFU) and Samos airport (SMI) to be transferred to Astra (SZZ) from Aegean Airlines (CRM). In return, Aegean (CRM) has been allocated the Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International airport (ATH) - Skiros airport (SKU) route that is currently served by Sky Express (Greece) (SEH). The new route allocations will be effective May 1 until March 31, 2016.
(SZZ) took delivery of its first ex-Amsterdam Airlines (AMZ) A320-200 (527, SX-DIO). (SZZ) plans to add a second airplane later this year and use both A320s for its previously announced new routes from Thessaloniki Makedonia (SKG) to Germany and Russia.
June 2012: Russian aviation authorities have approved eight new destinations for Astra Airlines (SZZ). (SZZ) received permission to fly from its Thessaloniki base to Novosibirsk, Omsk, Perm, Nizhniy Novgorod, Tyumen, Ufa, Samara, Volgograd, Voronezh, and Saratov. (SZZ) can operate these routes once a week from May 15 through the end of this year’s (IATA) summer season.
Russian authorities did not approve (SZZ) to fly to Yekaterinburg, which is the 5th biggest airport in the country.
(SZZ) operates domestic and international routes to several destinations in Germany, Ukraine, and Russia. (SZZ) has a fleet of 2 BAe-146-300s and 2 A320s.
The number of Russian tourists who traveled to Greece in the 1st quarter increased +50% in the year-ago period.
September 2012: Pratt & Whitney (PRW) signed a contract for its engine management program (EMP) service; a 3-year (EMP) agreement with Astra Airlines (SZZ) covering two (V2500) engines.
February 2013: Turkish (THY) Technic won a contract from Astra Airlines (SZZ) to perform landing gear maintenance on A320s in Istanbul.
October 2013: Ramco Systems will provide its Maintenance Repair & Overhaul (MRO) solution, including Maintenance & Engineering, Aviation Finance, Technical Records & Engineering, Inventory & Supply Chain, and Maintenance Planning & Execution, to Greece’s Astra Airlines (SZZ) Group.
November 2013: Ramco Systems’ maintenance software has gone live at Greece’s Astra Airlines (SZZ).
