SEPTEMBER 2001: THE VENEZUELAN AIR FORCE (VEN) AND AVENSA, ARE CURRENTLY IN THE PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION OF CREATING A COMPREHENSIVE AIRPLANE MAINTENANCE COMPANY. INITIALLY, (VEN) WILL PROVIDE COMPONENT LEVEL OVERHAUL, AND POSSIBLE AIRPLANE HEAVY MAINTENANCE IN THE FUTURE.
August 2002: Proceeds with plans to bring all heavy maintenance in-house for their 707 and 737 airplanes.
December 2013: Fuerza Aérea Venezolana (Maracay) (VEN) will take delivery of 10 Do228s from Swiss aviation firm, (RUAG) Aerospace (Lucerne), following the recent signing of a contract between the Venezuelan government and the Swiss in Caracas. The contract encompasses the sale of the airplanes as well as training, spare parts and ground support equipment (GSE). The 10 airplanes comprise 8 new Dornier 228 New Generation and 2 pre-owned Dornier 228-212s. Configured for passenger transport, the Dornier 228 fleet will connect remote villages with regional hubs across Venezuela, thereby improving local accessibility.
